The questions we hear most.
How this is different, what we can and cannot see, what happens when something breaks, and how billing works. Open any one.
For your home
How is this different from Norton or McAfee?
We do not replace antivirus. We add a layer on top of it, with people behind it.
Products like Norton and McAfee scan for threats someone has already identified. Useful as a baseline, but attackers move faster than those lists. Our protection watches how programs behave once something is already inside, and when it looks wrong, a security analyst looks at it before it spreads. What is actually protecting my computer right now?
Depending on what you chose, one or more of these runs quietly in the background:
- Threat detection and response, the important one. It watches for threat behavior and reports to a security team that works around the clock.
- Antivirus we keep current, on top of what is built into your operating system.
- Web filtering, which blocks known malicious sites before pages load.
- Cloud backup, encrypted offsite copies so you do not lose what matters.
Your portal shows exactly what is active for you. We choose established security partners with strong data-handling practices, and we will tell you which ones if you ask.
Will this slow my computer down?
No. Modern protection runs quietly, and most clients never notice it. Updates happen when you are not using the machine. If a critical update needs a restart during your day, we tell you first.
Do I still need to be careful about what I click?
Yes, but less than before, and we have you covered if you slip. What still matters on your end:
- Never share your password. Nobody from We Travel PC will ever ask for it.
- Be suspicious of urgent emails asking you to click a link or send money, even if they look like they are from your boss or a vendor.
- Text or call if anything feels wrong. A strange pop-up, an odd email, a login alert you did not expect. It is easier to be wrong about nothing than wrong about something real.
What does home protection cost?
$15 a month per computer, or $150 a year, which is two months free. A one-time computer clean-up is $150. Web filtering and cloud backup can be added for a few dollars more. How we look after a home, or get protected.
For businesses
What kinds of businesses do you work with?
Mostly small to mid-size organizations across North Dakota and Minnesota: mechanical and HVAC contractors, long-term care, K-12 and private schools, law and accounting firms, financial advisors, childcare centers, churches and nonprofits.
The common thread is shape, not industry. We work best with teams from a handful of people up to organizations with a hundred or more staff who want one accountable partner instead of a help desk.
What is your service area?
North Dakota and Minnesota, because trust and long-term fit matter in this work. Most support is remote, so we can serve organizations outside the region when the relationship and the scope make sense.
How does business pricing work?
We quote on the work, not a per-seat formula. Pricing depends on the number of computers, the mix of services, and how hands-on the engagement is. If your environment is unusually small or narrow, we will tell you honestly whether there is a sensible fit.
Are there minimums or long-term commitments?
No long-term contracts. Month to month, with thirty days notice if you ever want to part ways. Clients stay because the service is good, not because of paperwork. The scope does need to support a sound security posture, so we do not sell a single feature on its own.
Can you be our IT department?
Yes. For most of our business clients we are the IT department: security, network and Wi-Fi, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, computer replacement planning, day-to-day support, and the technical voice in the room when bigger decisions come up. For one of our longest-running clients we have held that role for more than twenty years.
What about compliance, like HIPAA?
We run the technical controls that support common frameworks: encryption at rest and in transit, access logging, backup and recovery, endpoint security, and HIPAA-aware day-to-day operations. For long-term care, healthcare and education clients this is the daily work. We are not auditors and do not issue compliance certifications.
Do you help with AI tools like ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini?
Yes. The real question is rarely which tool. It is how company data is handled, who has access, what gets logged, and what staff should and should not put into personal AI accounts. We advise on policy, licensing and appropriate use. AI guidance for small businesses.
Privacy and access
Can you see what I do on my computer?
No. We do not look at your screen, read your email or browse your files as part of normal service. The protection is looking for threats: suspicious processes, unauthorized access attempts, known malware patterns.
If support or an incident needs access, it is limited to that task and handled with your permission, logged, and accountable. Backups are encrypted, and access to them is tightly controlled.
Is my data private and secure?
- Established security vendors with strong compliance and data-handling practices.
- Everything in transit is encrypted. Every backup is encrypted at rest.
- We do not sell your data, share it with marketers, or train AI on it.
- We keep only what is needed to deliver the service. If you leave, backups are kept for ninety days and then purged.

When something goes wrong
What happens if something goes wrong? Do I just text you?
Whichever is easiest. If work has stopped or it looks like an attack, text or call 701.306.0188 and you reach Michael directly. Anything else, send a message from your portal or email michael@wetravelpc.com. No phone tree, no script, and no handoff to someone who does not know your setup. If something already feels wrong, start with calm first steps.
How fast do you respond?
Quickly, and by a person. There is no queue and there are no tiers. Security incidents are investigated around the clock, every day of the year, whether or not anyone at your end is awake. Everything else usually gets a reply the same business day. Small problems reported early are the ones that never become emergencies, so tell us as soon as something feels off.
Are you available after hours or on weekends?
For security, yes, around the clock. If something suspicious happens at two in the morning on a Sunday, the protection can isolate the machine on its own while the security team investigates. If it is not urgent enough to wake you, you see it in your portal in the morning.
For everything else, business hours, eight to five Central, Monday through Friday. Send a message any time and we reply the next business day. A true emergency that stops the business: call any time and we work the problem.
Do you do everyday fixes too, or only security?
Both. What is included each month depends on the scope we agreed, and your portal and invoice show what is active. For some clients, everyday support is part of the scope. For others, things like a printer setup, a new employee, or a router change are billed separately at our hourly rate. Either way, we tell you before the work whether it is covered.
Billing
What is included in a business plan?
Each plan is built around your actual environment. Some clients need security and backup. Others need us as their IT department: Microsoft 365, users, networks, vendors, and advice to leadership. Your portal shows the services active for your organization, and your invoice reflects the agreed monthly scope. Anything outside it, a larger project, hardware, cabling, a migration, is quoted separately before it starts. No surprise bills.
What if I want to cancel?
Thirty days notice. No long-term contract. No fees. Email or text to let us know. We send a final invoice for the current period, remove our tools from your systems, and you keep your data. Backups stay available for ninety days unless you ask for earlier deletion. We would rather keep you happy than keep you trapped, so if something is not working, tell us first.
How does billing work?
One invoice a month, in your portal and in your inbox with a link to pay. Pay by bank transfer, which has no fees, or by card, any time from the portal. Invoices are written so you can see what you are paying for, whether that is the monthly scope, project work, or per-computer items. No unexplained management fees.
About We Travel PC
Who is Michael Ehlert?
The person behind 701.306.0188, and the name that lands in your inbox. Based in Fargo. We Travel PC started in 2001, and Michael has spent the twenty-five years since building it around one idea: do IT the way you would want it done if you were the one running the business. About Michael.
Is it just Michael, or is there a team?
You work with Michael for almost everything, on purpose. Behind him are mature tools, documented systems, a security team that works around the clock, and trusted specialists when the work calls for them. Michael's brother Casey has been part of We Travel PC from the beginning and leads our largest engagement, a school district we have served for more than twenty years.
How long have you been in business?
Since 2001, independently owned the whole time. No private-equity rollup, no franchise. A few relationships have lasted nearly the whole run: more than twenty years with the same school district, more than a decade with a multi-location contractor, and care organizations through every era of healthcare technology.
What is your background?
Twenty-five years of hands-on work, backed by a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Capella University, and an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Technical Support from Alexandria Technical and Community College. The leadership degree matters because we think about systems, training and policy as much as the technical fix.
Who built the client portal?
We did. Most providers hand clients a white-label portal from a software vendor, so every client sees the same thing. Ours is built around what actually matters to you: your real security picture, your real coverage, your real billing. No vendor's roadmap deciding what your dashboard does.
Why stay small?
Because small is the point. The same person knows your environment, your history and your priorities. Decisions happen quickly. There is no account-management layer between you and the work, and tools are chosen because they are right, not because a vendor program rewards selling them. The result is a small book of long relationships rather than a big book of churning ones.
Where does the name come from?
In 2001 the idea was simple: meet clients where they are. Real people showing up at offices and homes instead of pulling everyone into a storefront. The name stuck. Most of the work is remote now, with visits when that is the right answer, but the idea is the same: bring the capability to the client, on their terms.
Did we miss your question?
Ask it directly. Text or call 701.306.0188, or email michael@wetravelpc.com. A real answer from a real person, usually the same business day.
